3:30 PM: Police Department
Chairman Bascom opened the meeting at 3:30pm. The Selectboard began signing documents from the Consent Agenda. Chief Giammarino, Sergeant Shea, and Officer Eneguess joined the meeting. Chairman Bascom outlined to the group that the Board is aware that Chief Giammarino is planning to retire. The Chair stated that the Board is focused on ensuring that potential changes to the department do not happen in a vacuum, and that the Board intends for changes in the department to be handled with a team approach. A conversation followed with the Board and the department members. Chief Giammarino stated that his last day as a Special Deputy U.S. Marshall is April 30th. A discussion on leadership plans, budgeting, and covering vacation time focused on the ways in which the department can address staffing in order to continue providing coverage as it has under Chief Giammarino’s leadership. A discussion on full-time versus part-time staffing touched on wages versus salaries. A discussion on the need for a police prosecutor was held. At the conclusion of the conversation, the Board discussed the possibility of a June 30th retirement date for Chief Giammarino. Following the discussion, Officer Eneguess and Sgt. Shea left the meeting.
A discussion followed between the Board and Chief Giammarino. The Board will meet with the Chief again on May 20th at 3:30pm.
The Chair made a motion to accept the Consent Agenda. The motion was seconded by Selectman Rainier. The Board voted 3-0 to approve the Consent Agenda items.
Adjournment
At 5:20 pm, the Chair made a motion to adjourn the meeting; the motion was seconded by the Selectman Rainier. The motion carried 3-0.
