To Protect and Assist Greenfield, New Hampshire

The Town of Greenfield, New Hampshire is located in the southern portion of Hillsborough County, bordering the surrounding towns of Peterborough, Hancock, Bennington, Francestown, and Lyndeborough. According to 2020 census data, approximately 1,700 residents are spread across 26 square miles. The Greenfield Police Department is in place to protect these residents.

Approximately 60 businesses fall under our jurisdiction, the largest of which include Seven Hills New Hampshire, American Steel, the Barbara C. Harris Center, and the Greenfield State Park. The Barbara C. Harris Center, Brantwood Camp, Camp Winamac, and the State Park are seasonal businesses that can triple the town’s population. The Greenfield Elementary School educates young students between the ages of kindergarten and fourth grade, so regular patrols are made during the beginning and end of the school day to ensure safety. With traffic volumes constantly exceeding 2,500 vehicles on Routes 31 and 136, traffic safety is important on a daily basis. This traffic increases during the summer months, as the State Park brings an additional 1,000 people to town on any given weekend. We record over 1,200 traffic violations during the course of any given year, and we continuously work to enforce these laws. However, we are responsible for much more than traffic safety.

On a yearly basis, we respond to ~ 2,000+ calls of varying degrees. We respond to domestic disturbance calls, accident scenes, medical emergencies, and other situations. We have two full time officers and two part time officers who work to satisfy these calls. We provide police service 365 days a year, and our officers are always prepared to respond to any emergency or call for service. At the Greenfield Police Department, we strive to connect with our residents and businesses on both a personal and professional level.

Lakes and Bodies of Water: In Greenfield, we have four main lakes: Sunset, Zephyr, Otter, and Powder Mill Pond. These four bodies of water attract swimmers, boaters, and fishing enthusiasts. These activities can attract hundreds of non-residents, and combined with the State Park visitors, this can effectively triple the town’s base population. Water sports include a number of hazards, so we routinely check these areas to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
