Oak Park Committee Meeting

July 14, 2022

In Attendance: Alyssum Proctor, Sarah Babb, MaryAnn Grant, MaryAnn, Karen Morrison, Sean Sylvester (acting chair)

5:40 - Meeting Called To Order With Sean Sylvester Serving As Chair In The Absence Of Dave Thimmel

Old Business

Farmer’s Market: The farmer's market is doing very well and Dave has received scores of praise from vendors who are overwhelmingly happy with how the market is being run and how lucrative it has been for them thus far. In addition to the market, there has also been yoga and ultimate frisbee at the park on Sundays as well. In regards to those events…

  • Ultimate Frisbee: Last week there were seven people who showed up to play. Everyone had a great time and planned on coming the following week. In addition to ultimate, there will also be Kan Jam coming soon, with equipment being provided by the committee.
  • Yoga: The first session of yoga in the park appeared to be a huge hit. Between 15 and 30 people showed up to participate.
  • Pickle Ball: Kay Hopkins will be at the park this Sunday with enough equipment to play 2v2 pickleball and hopes to make it a regular event.
  • Other: Horseshoe pits might be setup this weekend. Dave will setup the monster bean bag toss for the kids.

Cardboard Regatta: Still up in the air pending logistical issues, but will most likely still take place in mid to late August

Flea Market: Everyone was in agreement that we should start advertising for the event and give it a shot, but a date was not decided upon

New Business

Advertising: The committee discussed different ways to advertise the flea market and other events we host. Amongst the ideas suggested were, NHPR, WMUR, Go Monadnock, Facebook, Monadnock Ledger Transcript…

  • NHPR: NHPR runs a weekly segment called “The Weekender” where the staff shares upcoming events that for that weekend. The information is also distributed via a weekly email chain. For large events Sean Sylvester will email NHPR to inform them of the event in the hopes that we will make the cut.
  • WMUR: Karen brought up that WMUR has free advertising on their calendar and during the morning news. Alyssum offered to handle that.
  • Go Monadnock: Alyssum offered to reach out to Go Monadnock about advertising some of our events.
  • Facebook: Several members noted that Milford lists its vendors ahead of time and features pictures or anecdotes about things of interest that might bring people in, such as seasonal items or oddities that are otherwise hard to come by. It was agreed that this could be facilitated via an email thread or group text with all of the vendors and Dave who would be responsible for telling him whether they are coming and if they are bringing anything new or special. But ultimately it will be on the vendors to tell Dave, it is not expected that he chase them down for answers. And if they don’t make the list because they didn’t tell Dave then it’s on them.
  • Monadnock Ledger Transcript: The Ledger was briefly discussed. It was decided that print ads were too costly but that they might still have a community events section where we could get free advertising. Sarah mentioned she had coworkers that might be able to help her network with the Ledger.

Other

Pumpkin Fest: The committee agreed without a vote, ergo non-bidning, that the August 4th meeting will be dedicated solely to Pumpkinfest

Treasurer’s Report: Pursuant to NH RSA 91-A ACCESS TO GOVERNMENTAL RECORDS AND MEETINGS - §4 Minutes and Records Available for Public Inspection, MaryAnn Grant requested that Catrina bring a treasurer’s report to the next meeting

Data: MaryAnn Grant made a request that we better track attendance and how we use our materials and food so as to better plan for future events

6:30 - Chair opens the floor to any closing remarks from members, none were made.

6:30 Meeting adjourned
