Board of Cemetery Trustees

PRESENT:  Gil Bliss, chair; Trustee Margaret Charig Bliss, Trustee Lee LeBlanc, Sexton Merrill Villmore; Nathan Levesque, Boy Scout; Boy Scout board member Mike Borden

 

In New Business, the Trustees:

FINALIZED plans for Boy Scout  Nathan Levesque to undertake his Eagle Scout project of making permanent improvements to Whittemore Cemetery. The plan includes a general clean-up and restoration of fallen stones from the cemetery’s surrounding walls, establishment of a solid handrail to assist people getting up the steep incline, refurbishment of the existing gate, and establishment of a sign to commemorate the burial site of Revolutionary War veteran Major Amos Whittemore. The work, which will be overseen by Scout board member Mike Borden and will include other scout adults and youngsters, will commence April 28. The Cemetery Trustees will provide the cost of materials, expected to be less than $400.

   Sexton Merrill Villmore and trustee Lee LeBlanc will help supervise on April 28.

 

VOTED to pay Sexton Merrill Villmore $50 for each cremation hole he digs. Motion: Bliss; second: Charig Bliss; vote: unanimous.

 

APPROVED “green burials” on a case-by-case basis. Motion: Bliss; second: LeBlanc; vote: unanimous.

 

DECIDED not to plant any more crab apple trees in Greenvale Cemetery since three have died.

 

APPROVED opening Greenvale Cemetery on May 1, weather and ground conditions permitting.

 

INSTRUCTED the Sexton to find a permanent solution to the gate signs that slip down each season.

 

DISCUSSED Row markers for Greenvale Cemetery, to help visitors find grave stones.
