The proposed 2025 budget has been amended following the Budget Preview session held on January 2nd. The Selectboard listened to feedback from residents and made reductions in the budget. As a result, the proposed 2025 net-expense budget, previously $20,524 higher than last year, is lower by $12,747, a total reduction of $35,271 from January 2nd. Due to changes required by the New Hampshire Department of Revenue (DRA), an emergency management grant, and capital expense planning discussed at last year’s meeting, the bottom line of the proposed 2025 budget is higher than the previous year, however the tax impact is forecast lower*. The explanations for these items follow:

  • The Selectboard’s budget includes DRA required gross-budgeting for the Wastewater plant of $26,500. This amount is paid for by user fees and has no tax impact.
  • A Hazard Mitigation Grant in the amount of $7,500 will have no tax impact.
  • The Forestry Committee expenditure of $2,400 will have no tax impact as it comes from the Town Forest Maintenance Account
  • The Loader payment of $50,000 will be paid for out of savings in order to smooth capital expenses. The loader was delivered a year earlier than ordered as a result of supply chain issues. Next year the Loader payment will be covered in the budget (through taxation) but this expense washes (year-over-year) with the SCBA and MACK (DPW 6-wheeler) payments, which are winding down. The Fire Department SCBA warrant article will be retired in 2025. The MACK 2020 warrant article was retired in 2024.

The Net Proposed Budget for 2025 is therefore:

$3,744,771 - $86,400 = $3,658,371 which compares to the 2024 Budget of $3,671,119

A Difference Of: -$12,748.00
