Board of Cemetery Trustees Meeting

Greenfield, NH 03047

DATE: Tuesday, September 5, 4:30 p.m.

LOCATION: Town Office Building

PRESENT:  Gil Bliss, Chairman; Member Margaret A. Charig Bliss; Sexton Merrill Villmore; Boy Scout Nate Levesque, Troop 271, Greenfield; Troop leader Mike Borden

The Board:

  1. APPROVED a plan from Nate Levesque to complete an Eagle Scout project at Whittemore Cemetery on New Boston Road. The plan, which still needs approval from the Boy Scouts, includes clearing small trees and brush under the direction of Sexton Merrill Villmore, creating a handrail to assist walkers on the hilly ground, repainting the gate and erecting signs to identify the cemetery and honor the Revolutionary War burial there. The Cemetery Trustees will cover the costs of materials, estimated to be less than $250. Once he has Boy Scout approval, Levesque will report back to the Trustees with a finalized overall plan, a design for the signs and a budget.
  2. APPROVED spending $800 to begin repairing the stone wall along the front of Greenvale Cemetery. The remainder of the work will take place next year.
  3. AGREED to ask the town for assistance from the Department of Public Works to relocate a brush pile from the back of Greenvale Cemetery into the woods track that leads toward Zephyr Lake. The intent is to block access to the track for safety reasons. Jarvis Adams, who maintains the water pump system at the cemetery, had confirmed that there never has been road access to the pump house.
  4. ADJOURNED at 5:30 p.m.
