Board of Cemetery Trustees

DATE:  May 4, 2017, 5 p.m.

LOCATION: Town Hall Board Room

PRESENT:  Gil Bliss, chair;  Trustee Margaret Charig Bliss, Trustee Lee LeBlanc, Sexton Merrill Villmore; Nathan Levesque, boy scout; Scout Leader Mike Borden

NEW BUSINESS

1.The Trustees discussed the plan to have area boy scouts help with planting 90 trees in and around Greenvale and Meeting House cemeteries. Tree seedlings from the New Hampshire state nursery include silver and sugar maples, grey dogwoods, and Norway spruce. Locating specific trees in specific places will be done by the sexton and trustees. The seedlings will be planted later in May.Trustees plan to place small white flags either side of the seedlings to mark the location to protect the tiny trees against mowing and other damage.                                                           

2.The Trustees discussed work to be done by a group of town volunteers, led by Ray Cilley, clearing brush along the sides of Greenvale cemetery.

3.The Trustees accepted and approved a bill for $34.17 from Sexton Merrill Villmore.

4.Boy Scout leader Mike Borden discussed with the Trustees a plan for Scout  Nathan Levesque to earn an Eagle Scout designation by working with Trustees to cleanup and improve Whittemore cemetery, which contains the town’s lone Revolutionary War and improving documentation of the burials in Greenvale Cemetery. Borden and Levesque will come back to the Trustees when they have designed a project that meets Scouting guidelines and the Trustees’ needs.

5.The Boy Scouts will perform their annual task of placing flags on veterans’ graves for Memorial Day.
