RULES & REGULATIONS:
o Use of the Recycling Center is restricted to Greenfield residents and taxpayers only.
o Use requires a facilities sticker for your vehicle, available at the Town offices for no charge.
o All users are required to separate articles of trash as outlined in this guide.
o All trash presented for disposal maybe subject to inspection and refusal by the attendant. Repeated failure to separate correctly will result in a fine.
o Fees for disposal apply to certain articles (see chart) and may vary with the changing costs of disposal. Such changes will be posted.
o Fees are to be paid to the attendant.
The following facilities and "windows" are currently in use at the Recycling Center:
1. HOUSEHOLD TRASH COMPACTOR: For usual kitchen/food waste and all non-recyclable material, including light bulbs, sanitary products, plastic toys, styrofoam, garden hose, plastic motor oil bottles, empty paint cans, etc.
2. DEMOLITION DUMPSTER: For mattresses, box springs, couches, and non-burnable demolition debris, including linoleum, formica, sheet rock, roof shingles, and pressure-treated wood material. There is a disposal fee for all of these items. Please see attendant before using.
3. GLASS CRUSHER: No light bulbs! For cap-free and stopper-free glass bottles, and other all-glass articles such as cracked/broken drinking glasses, etc. Articles must be placed on the glass crusher table.
4. ALUMINUM CAN WINDOW: For aluminum beverage cans only. No aluminum cat food cans, aluminum foil, or aluminum baking pans, etc.
5. TIN CAN, EMPTY AEROSOL CAN and ALUMINUM CAT FOOD CAN WINDOW: Please rinse all cans and remove plastic tops from empty aerosol cans.
6. PLASTIC BOTTLE AND JUG WINDOW: No food containers - i.e. no yogurt or clear "berry" containers, beverage cups, etc.
Please remove all lids and rinse clean.
Acceptable articles include:
o All #1 clear and colored plastic bottles - soda, water, alcohol, peanut butter, and any other bottle with #1 printed on its bottom.
o All #2 solid and milky colored plastic jugs/bottles: including milk, cider, windshield washer fluid, dish detergent, laundry detergent, shampoo, paint thinner, and any other bottle with #2 printed on its bottom.
7. CLEAN MIXED PAPER WINDOW: No books. No shredded paper, no soiled/wet paper, and no waxed or plastic-coated paper boxes/cartons such as those used to package frozen food, milk and other dairy products.
Permissible items include newspapers, magazines, catalogs, junk mail, paper bags, paper-based (i.e. non-corrugated) cereal, shoe and gift boxes, and beverage cartons.
Please flatten cartons and "bag" all articles in paper or plastic bags before disposal.
8. CARDBOARD: No waxed cardboard. Corrugated boxes and corrugated wrapping material only All boxes must be empty, broken down, and flattened.
9. USED MOTOR OIL: Oil only, gasoline or kerosene not allowed. Oil must not be contaminated with water, anti-freeze or other liquid organics. Please leave oil container by glass crusher table or see attendant before dumping it.
10. BRUSH & WOOD PIT: Brush, scrap wood/lumber and limbs only. No pressure-treated lumber or leaves and no limbs over 5" in diameter.
11. METAL PILE: No LP gas tanks, no sealed containers, no articles containing refrigerants (See attendant). Permissible items include: all large and small metal items, engines (only if drained of fluids first), and drums (if over 100 gal, drum must be cut in half).
12. REFRIGERATORS, FREEZERS, AIR CONDITIONERS, AND DEHUMIDIFIERS: Doors and all contents must be removed from refrigerators and freezers. There is a disposal fee for items containing refrigerants. Please see attendant.
13. TIRE PILE: All tires must have rims removed before disposal. There is a disposal fee for tires. Please see attendant.
14. AUTOMOBILE AND HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES: These are accepted; please see attendant.
15. MINI-MALL: This a small shed for recycling clean, wearable clothing and items still in good working order. Please do not leave soiled clothing or "junk" items that are not suitable for immediate re-use or that do not "work" - for example, torn/soiled fabric-based furniture, non-functioning TV sets/toasters/microwaves and other electronic items, mismatched skis, 3-legged chairs, etc.
