The Town of Greenfield, New Hampshire
Parks & Recreation Committee Minutes 06/30/2009
Greenfield Recreation & Facilities Committee
June 30,  2009
APPROVED Minutes
Committee Members Present:   MaryAnn Grant, Melissa Champagne, Lori Weeks, Lee LeBlanc, David Buchanan,

Recreation Coordiantor:   Stephanie Lamothe

Absent:  Lisa Hall, Rhonda Cilley, Conrad Dumas, Neal Brown

Meeting called to order at 6:05 pm
1.  Sunset Concessions

  • Members discussed ways to recruit volunteers for the Sunset Beach concessions stand per Deb Davidson’s request;  there has been concern about lifeguards manning the stand instead of watching the water
  • Melissa mentioned that the casual response from residents at the beach that she spoke to didn’t seem too willing to volunteer even an hour
  • The possibility of using ConVal students needing community service was posed
  • Discussion about the pros and cons of the ice cream truck coming to the beach ensued
  • Stephanie suggested that maybe if we asked the truck to come after peak hours that it wouldn’t compete with concession revenue – if that was indeed a concern
  • Maryann wondered if there was a freeze on buying concession snacks considering town departments have been asked to stop spending and to cut their budgets by 5%
  • It was agreed that Rec Committee members would contact representatives of the PTO, GIVers, Friends of the Library, Fire Department, Women’s Club and Boy Scouts to determine any willingness to volunteer during peak hours at Sunset.
  • Lori and Stephanie would design a flyer asking for support to be handed out at the beach during the first week; a sign- up sheet would be posted as well
  • Rec  Committee members agreed to volunteer a number of hours during the first week to  model and talk to residents
  • Lori plans to contact Deb to inquire about the nature of the concessions: confirm when there are two lifeguards on duty, when the swim lessons run and if volunteers are expected to transport snacks, etc.
2.  Next Meeting

  • Next Meeting; July 7th at 7:00 pm in the Library to discuss numerous plans and activities subject to Stephanie’s guidance; short and long-term goals will be addressed
Meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
