The Town of Greenfield, New Hampshire
Trustee of Cemeteries and Trust Funds Minutes 07/29/10
Board of Cemetery Trustees/Board of Trustees of Trust Funds meeting minutes

DATE:  July 29, 2010 6 p.m.
LOCATION:   Town Office Building

PRESENT:  Gil Bliss, Margo Charig Bliss, Jan Moller, trustees; Merrill Villmore, arborist; Lee LeBlanc, trustee emeritus

The Board heard Merrill Villmore’s report on progress at the cemeteries, including brush removal at the Meeting House Cemetery as well as pruning, caterpillar removal and other plant maintenance at Greenvale Cemetery. He is obtaining Colorado blue spruce seedlings for planting at Greenvale and noted that last fall’s wrapping of some evergreens at Greenvale proved successful in less damage from deer and windburn.

Mike Borden was scheduled to attend with a proposal for a new gate at the Whittemore Cemetery, but was unable to be there. The cemetery condition was discussed and it was noted that Matt Blanchard will try to find time to remove saplings and tree shoots from among the graves. John Kaufhold of Peterborough Marble and Granite will be notified that previous repair of one stone had failed. Villmore’s bill was approved for submission to selectmen.

Jan Moller brought two boxes of trustee records that were recovered from the Town Office Building basement. The boxes have been organized and cataloged and will be placed in the Historical Society’s fireproof, climate-controlled room, by prior arrangement.

A discussion was held relative to continuing research on cemetery plot prices from surrounding towns. Also discussed were town plans to take over coordination of burials at Greenvale Cemetery, with an eye to possibly beginning in spring of 2011.

The Doris Belcher Scholarship results were discussed, with the bulk of the funds this year going to one student with great need, in accordance with the Doris Belcher will.

The meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Gil Bliss
